LEVERING PROCESS-CENTRED TECHNOLOGY FOR BUSINESS MODEL BREAKTHROUGHS

Views And Comments On The World Of Business Process

Welcome!  My name is John Morris and this website is all about the business process revolution.

"Revolution" is a big word.  But revolution is a fair description of what's happening on both sides of the world of business process -- the business side and the technology side.  On the business side we are seeing the development of new business models, most notably involving business process outsourcing (BPO), but not limited to that.  And on the technology side, powerful new process software technologies are coming out of the labs.  Of course, if you've been following the space for a while, you'll be aware of the fact that the BPM revolution has been predicted for a decade now -- the same decade during which we very much did see a BPO revolution.  (There are reasons for the slower-than-anticipated uptake on BPM technology, which we can explore.)

What will you see when you visit decisionmodels.org?

Using journalism as my model, I want to share what I learn about the potential, the successes, the reality and the dysfunctions of this new BPM/BPO world.  And luckily, my role as a front-line sales person and evangelist for outstanding business process software gives me a great perspective "at the rock face".  In addition to that bottom-up perspective, I'm also able to attend both industry and academic conferences, which along with wide reading and conversation provides the theory that helps make sense of daily practice.

My goal is to provide useful information for executives that need to make strategic choices about business organization and business models.  BPM technology is the lever about which I write; but the context is business need, systems theory, industrial organization and some economics.

Business process technology is not just any technology for business.  It is the technology for business.  Business is about the organization of work and BPM software is about that work.  BPM software makes it possible to envision how your work should be executed -- and then the tools to make that vision real.  This model, build and use  paradigm has not really been possible via any other software technology, and the full exploitation of the potential is still in the future.  But your success will soon be dependent on your mastery of this technology and your use of this technology every day.

Why not start exploring how you can use BPM technology now?  You'll begin to build up your understanding and capabilities.  And you'll soon find that you are able to do business the way you need to, not only to survive, but to thrive!

If you want to  keep your finger on the pulse of business and technology for business process, please keep in touch.  New items are announced via Twitter by JohnHMorris and DecisionModels.

I welcome your inquiries.  Please drop me a note to "john" at this domain.
